The Barn Dance - Book Signing Event

Last night, Emerson Creek Pottery Tea Room held a book signing event. It was put together by Kindred Spirits Intuitive Arts Center and featured a book by New York Times best-selling author James Twyman. The Barn Dance, is the story of Twyman's life experiences after the loss of his wife.
Twyman was skyped in and interacted with the 40 guests who attended. Each person received an autograph from Twyman and enjoyed Emerson Creek homemade coconut cream pie. It was a great place to host a book discussion.
For more information on this book, you can visit Twyman's website.

If you are interested in hosting a special event, please call Emerson Creek Pottery at 630-554-7100. We'd love to have you!

Our First Post!

Welcome to the new Emerson Creek Pottery and Tea Room blog. We hope that you will follow us for frequent updates on what's going on at our quaint little place.
Before we get to that, we want to give you a little bit of background about our business. Let's get to know eachother!

Our Story:
We bought the farm with an idea in mind that we got while visiting Virginia. We ran Across Emerson Creek Pottery in Bedford, Virginia. They make the pottery there and each piece is hand painted to this day. We had to travel down a long country road to get there which led to an old country farm house where the pottery is sold. It is a destination in itself, like our shop and tea room, and the people loved going there.

We thought we could create the same effect here and share the peace and quiet of the country with others. We turned the farmhouse into the shop in 2000 and everbody liked it so much. They started to come and sit on the porch to rest and some even brought their lunches to enjoy in the relaxing country atmosphere. So, we decided to open a restaurant and a place to really relax on an even bigger porch. We turned the shed and horse stables into Emerson Creek Tea Room in 2002.

The History of Emerson Creek:

Pottery Shop
Located inside the renovated 100 yr old farmhouse, Emerson Creek Pottery Shop offers a wide array of handcrafted gifts and accessories as well as our namesake hand painted pottery. From hand-poured candles and carefully blended soaps from the Napa Valley to the ever-popular dinner and bakeware and locally made honey, each item in the shop is personally selected to offer a unique and original collection of merchandise. Whether you are looking to add to your collection of Emerson Creek Pottery or simply pick up a new Basil, Sage, Mint candle there is something for everyone at the shop.

Tearoom
You would never guess that the charming tearoom where you enjoy a delicious gourmet lunch was once the same spot that horses dined on less civilized fare. Converted in 2002, the old horse stables on the property seemed to be the perfect spot for a one-of-a-kind café. Remnants of the original structure can be found outside and along the porch: the worn hitching post, original trusses and beams, and the preserved stalls where you can sit and dine al fresco on a beautiful summer day. Our weekly menu offers a variety of homemade dishes including our popular Emerson Creek Flower Pot Salad, Apricot Chicken Salad Croissant, and Asparagus Quiche, all of which is served on Emerson Creek Pottery. Of course, lunch at Emerson Creek would not be complete without dessert!

We hope everyone enjoys our place as much as we do and maybe we can bring back some memories of the "simple days, the simple ways".....
Chris
